This proposal was intended to create an community-based design initiative that would offer a selection of different materials for wall and floor cladding, as well as lighting fixture styles and new wall sconces for added interior light of communal hallways to residents of NYCHA housing.
Residents would collectively select their desired designs from a booklet of standard styles. The intention of this initiative is to crowdsource designs from NYCHA resident’s preferences rather than confining them to one preexisting option for hallway design.
This proposal consists of a concept booklet which includes various different material & lighting options as well as a functional design for a high-visibility wall sconce. The proposal was presented to NYCHA architects and designers in fall 2017.
